I am in the works of planning Preston's 1st birthday party. I know It is really sad, but I want it to be a special day so that means lots of planning. I have most everything picked out and now its time to figure out how to make/get it all. The cake of course is the main thing and I found the perfect one online. I called a few people and got prices and wow I just can't do it. The thrifty couponer in me says NO WAY you can pay that much for something you can do yourself.
With my inner voice I went to google got some tips, got a recipe, and headed to the grocery store with coupons in hand of course. I got everything I needed and decided to give it a try, and luckily my BFF offered to come over and help! It was a good thing No way I could do it by myself. It is not a hard process, but for sure messy. I think I had a couple of mini strokes looking at my messy kitchen.
The end result was a clean kitchen and pretty good cake.
It looks a little funny in the picture since we had already ate half of the top layer, but not bad for a first try.
I am going to try one more like what I want the final one to look like closer to time. My vision is 2 tiered cake. The bottom layer is going to be 3 or 4 cakes (so it will be thicker) the top will be a tad bigger than it is in the picture. It is going to be blue like the one we made last night, but it will have smaller polka dots in red, green, and yellow. I have a cake topper for the top tier that matches the party theme. I have also thought about using cookie cutters to cut his name out. I can expierment now that I know I can do it.
I am excited about party planning! This is my favorite thing to do.

Yay fondant cakes! I agree they're not necessarily hard, they are just messy and time-consuming! Can't wait to see the final product. The boys' party will turn out great!
